I am the Diva Challenge #157 - UMT Charlie

Another new tangle to try this week, thanks to Laura's idea on I am the Diva for Challenge number 157. And the new tangle was from Erin - whom I know and love from The Bright Owl - so it had to be good!

And it's a very striking tangle indeed and stands pretty well on its own as a monotangle. I chose to do it as a dramatic background to the new tangle, Tropicana, that I've fallen in love with. (From Art Lady Kate - see stepouts here.)

Then, having just got the children back to school after sort of mini half-term, which is a first for Spanish schools (fiesta days coinciding with a weekend and an extra day thrown in) - I found I had a little hour to spare so I did another tile, trying out a tangle that I think I might have created all by myself! (So exciting but do tell me if this exists elsewhere.)

I saw it in a shop window and took a snap so I could detangle it. I have called it 'Lamota' - because here in Alcala la Real, we have a beautiful castle on the hill, called 'La Mota' and I wanted to link my tangle to that. It is a series of linked stars based on a line grid and can be seen in my second tile on the bottom right hand side, just above Crescent Moon.

I am still a little undecided how to shade it for the best effect but if you give it a go and let me know what you think, it would be a great help!

    Both tiles are very beautiful done with Charlie and the other patterns you used. I also like your Lamota, very elegant and lovely. By the way, i was not sitting to wait for the challenge, but in Holland everyone is Free from work, because iits Carnaval. Therefore i was very earlythis time. 😘😄😜

    I like both your tiles. I don't know the patterns tropicana and ditto. Charly looks very good in the background and it is not disappearing because it' s a powerful pattern. Very nice! And your colours in the second tile are magical.

    I love Lamota.....very nice pattern and your step out is easy to follow. I am impressed with your use of Charlie. The tile is really wonderful!

    Beautiful work! I haven't gotten around to using tropicana yet, but it is just one of those I'm dying to use! & I love how you put it on top of charlie. The dash of color on the second tile is lovely too!

      Thanks Kathryn - I fell in love with Tropicana immediately - and ditto with Ditto!! I'm sure you'll love it too. Charlie shows it off well and still manages to be a strong presence. I'm just learning about colour....little by little. Axxx

    Both are beautiful! My favorite is the first one. I like this great kombination with Tropicana! Your shading ist excellent!

    I love the second tile especially because I do like to see a bit of colour. Haven't seen Ditto before but I love how you have used it x

      Thanks Chrissie! So glad you like what I've done here. I am waiting to hear from Linda as to whether my tangle is original...maybe someone else thought it too. I'd love to see what you make of it regardless of who came up with it.

    Like your use of Charlie as a background. Ditto makes a nice border and like it in color. Not sure because it may just be that it is rotated differently but Lamota looks very similar to Quiltz. You can check it out on tangle patterns.

      Thanks Donald. I sent my tangle in to Linda and Quiltz was one that came up as a good example of how to complete the step outs - for a moment, I too thought it was the same - but it's different. And the way of drawing it is very different. I hope it's original as I really hadn't seen it anywhere else but accept there may be something already out there. Ditto is a lovely tangle and really suits the colour. Axxx

      I was able to flip back and forth between the two and the difference is subtle enough that it is hard to see at first. Quiltz has the larger diamonds both horizontally and vertically while yours only has it horizontally. I could not remember the step out for Quiltz, but yours did look different. That is sometimes deceptive as sometimes they are different but they end up with the same results. Good Luck on getting it accepted. I am not clear anymore what her criteria is for deciding what gets posted.

      Thank you Donald. I know they look very similar - I hadn't seen Quiltz until I was submitting Lamota, so imagine my shock on first seeing it! I hope it will be accepted, just to get the name into Zentangle...if it doesn't I hope I can do another, more original one - which I shall also call Lamota!
